NEW FOR 2012

Highland Cottage will re-open for the 2012 season on - or about - 30 March .We look forward as much to welcoming back regular guests as we do to meeting new ones.

THIS WILL BE OUR 15TH SEASON AT HIGHLAND COTTAGE AND THE GOOD NEWS (WE HOPE FOR ALL) IS THAT WE ARE NO LONGER FOR SALE AND WILL BE CARRYING ON UNTIL WELL…………

We know that times are pretty tough “out there” and that we are all, as it were, in the same boat. We all look to spend less and to get more for our money. And so, at Highland Cottage, will be doing our best to play our part -

ROOM RATES:

Despite not having raised our room rates for 3 years and having absorbed the hike in VAT to 20%, we are lowering our 2012 room rates by some 10% and, for the first time, formally introducing early and late season rates. Please check our tariff page for details. All our prices are per room per night and, of course, include VAT @ 20%. We apply no additional service charges.

RESTAURANT:

Whilst we are pleased to offer what has been described as “the only real fine-dining on Mull” and one of the few AA 2 Rosette restaurants on the Scottish Islands, we do feel that we need to “tweek” our offering a little for 2012. We aim, therefore, to maintain our quality in every way but simplify our menu to an extent and reduce our basic menu price by some 15%-20%. Check out our sample menu. Our price includes VAT and we add no additional service charges.

DINNER, BED AND BREAKFAST “PACKAGES”

Whilst we no longer quote an on-line Dinner, Bed and Breakfast rate, we are always happy to quote a Dinner-inclusive rate should that be preferred.

LOOKING FORWARD:

As already indicated, we look forward to 2012 with anticipation and no little enthusiasm.

We were proud to receive a healthy clutch of favourable reviews throughout 2011 and, with the odd exception, our on-line reviews were generally very positive. We are happy to retain both our Good Hotel Guide entry and VisitScotland Gold award for 2012 and have just been awarded the “2 ticks” accolade (indicating a standard amongst the best of its kind in the UK) in the 2012/13 edition of Peter Irvine’s “Scotland the Best” published in early December. We appear under the headings - Best Island Hotels and Best of Mull - both hotels and eating out

Michael Winner stayed with us in April 2011 and described Highland Cottage in his “Sunday Times” column as a place where “everything bears the mark of absolute care and good taste”. Given Michael’s incredibly high level of expectation wherever he goes, we felt very proud indeed!
